Management of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has instituted measures that prioritizes sanitation as the Assembly awaits upgrading to a Metropolitan status.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Ransford Owusu Boakye said his administration is leaving no stone unturned to achieve total sanitation that befits a Metropolitan community when upgraded.

The MCE said sanitation in the
New Juaben unicipality has improved under the current administration as compared to the state he inherited some few months back.

Hon Ransford Owusu Boakye disclosed that refuse collection upon assumption of office was a challenge in the face of limited skip containers and garbage bins.

He narrates that Zoomlion before he came took over had recalled off half of its skip containers leaving the entire municipality with just eleven of them.

He said management had to negotiate for additional containers from the sanitation service provider at additional cost despite having contract with them.

The MCE said the Assembly under his leadership has introduced the ‘Pay as you dump’ policy which he says has helped in timely evacuation of refuse.

He indicated that the assembly has purchase over hundred garbage bins and in the process of getting more to be placed in markets, lorry terminals, public grounds and other vantage points.

This the MCE stressed will further enhance responsible garbage disposal and sustainable refuse collection in the municipality.

Hon Ransford Boakye further revealed the the flagship monthly national sanitation day exercise has witnessed encouraging patronage due to effective public education and engagement.

The Chief Executive said one aspect of sanitation that management is still working on is to ensure that individuals homes and institutions take care of their backyards and frontages.

He said management has therefore tasked the municipal environmental health department to intensify its routine community and home inspections to ensure that individual homes and frontages are kept clean.

He said the Assembly is also in the process of officially writing to identified institutions with poor sanitary environment to do the needfull.
