The regional communications officer in a short press statement said attention of the secretariat and management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly was drawn to announcement made at some enclaves of the Kumasi Central and Kejetia markets that daily fee paid by traders has been increased from 2 cedis to 5 cedis, effective Monday, 3rd February 2025.

He called on traders and the general public to disregard any such claims of an increment.

According to the communications officer, his checks at the metropolitan coordinating director and the Finance Officer’s offices respectively confirmed that the official daily trading fee remains 2 cedis and not 5 cedis as been alleged.

Abass Nurudeen therefore urged raders at the Kumasi Central Market to continue paying the approved fee of 2 cedis and nothing else.

He also advised public to report any individuals demanding 5 cedis as daily fees to the relevant authorities for immediate action.

“Our attention has been drawn TO a misleading announcements being made at the Dr. Mensah and Zuria FM enclaves of the Kumasi Central Market, claiming that the daily trading fee paid by traders has been increased from 2 cedis to 5 cedis, effective Monday, 3rd February 2025.

We wish to state categorically that no such increment has been approved by the KMA.

After checks with the Metropolitan Coordinating Director and the Finance Officer, it has been confirmed that the official daily trading fee remains 2 cedis. Any claims of an increment are false and must be disregarded.

Traders at the Kumasi Central Market are therefore advised to continue paying the approved fee of 2 cedis and should not be deceived into paying any additional amount. The public is further urged to report any individuals demanding 5 cedis as daily fees to the relevant authorities for immediate action”, part of the statement reads.
