A legislator in the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana has recounted how his aggressive and defiant campaign against the ongoing debate on LGBTQ+ in the West African country affected his chances of winning the just ended internal parliamentary contest.
Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra region says advocates of LGBQT+ community supported his contender in the internal race to defeat him in order to kick him out of parliament.

He acknowledged that while he had support form anti-LGBTQ+ society, his opponent was equally supported by those on the other side of the same sex debate.
“While I had my support, my opponent also had support from the other side of the LGBTQ+ issue. I would be a political novice to think that my campaign against LGBTQ+ did not go against me”, the MP said in an interview.
The vociferous MP who is leading a crusade against the enactment of any potential law that might condone with or entertain homosexuality in Ghana however, won the primaries to contest for re-election in the coming Presidential and Parliamentary elections come 2024.
Sam George as he’s popularly known in Ghanaian political circles beat his fierce contender, Michael Kwettey Nettey in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential and Parliamentary primaries held on Saturday 13th May,2023.
Mr. Sam George Nartey secured 1036 as against 626 of his challenger to seal his bid for re-election on the ticket of the NDC in 2024.
