Ghanaian Professor ranked among 2022 World Top 2% Scientists

A Ghanaian Professor of Applied Mathematics, Ebenezer Bonyah has been named among world’s top 2% scientists in the 2022 Stanford University Global Ranking.

The Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics Education (DME) at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in Ghana was rated for the second time among top global scientists following his appearance in the global top list in 2021.

Professor Ebenezer Bonyah said the 2022 (2%) global ranking is an improved version of his maiden entry score.

Prof. Bonyah made the feat in the midst of about 100,000 top scientists, doctors, and engineers who were featured in The Stanford University Global Ranking for the year.

Stanford University in the course of the ranking considered wide range of factors in positioning the individual scientists, doctors and research engineers into the top 2% threshold.

The ranking considered the number of academic papers the scientists have produced, and number of citations received for their research works during the year under review.

The University also factored the H-index and Hm-index of 2020 and 2021 as well as the number of academic papers authored by a single scientist and citations received on them.

Again, the ratio of total citations to the distinct citing papers, self-citation percentage, and an author’s first and second top-ranked scientific-metrix category (subfield) were also considered.

Prof. Bonyah is currently the Acting Director of Research, Innovation, and Development at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

The Associate Professor has maintained a high performance among the world’s top-ranked scientists and researchers in recent years.

Prof. Ebenezer Bonyah emerged as the 50th most cited scholar in Ghana and 120978th in the world in the AD Scientific Index 2021 World Scientist and University Rankings.

The AD Scientific Index is the only study that shows scientists’ total and last five-year productivity coefficients based on the H-index and i10 index scores and citations in Google Scholar.

Management of AAMUSTED has congratulated the Associate Professor following his global recognition.

In a commendation letter dated December 19, 2022, management acknowledged the good efforts of Prof.
Bonyah which has led to his recognition on the global academic stage.

The university gave the assurance that Management had taken notice of his “great and enviable academic achievements” and was proud to be associated with his success.

In the letter, management encouraged him to keep up the hard work, adding that the school looks forward to seeing him go higher in the years ahead.

“Indeed, writing your name in a World Ranking of such high standing, among the top 2% Scientists, is a demonstration of the great potential of the Ghanaian to rub shoulders with the world’s greats,” part of the letter reads.

The letter also stated the university is inspired by Prof. Bonyah’s achievements in the global academic space and urged him to continue projecting the image of the University.

Prof. Ebenezer Bonyah is an Associate Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics Education at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, formerly University of Education Winneba, College of Technology, Kumasi- Ghana.

The global acclaimed scientist joined AAMUSTED in 2018 and he is the university’s current acting Director of Research, Innovative and Development.

Bonyah undertook Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Programme in the Department of Mathematics at Vaal Technology University, South Africa in 2016.

He holds PhD. Degree in Applied Mathematics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi- Ghana.

Prof. Bonyah serves as Reviewer of many Internationally Accredited Journals as well as editorial board member of four (8) peer reviewed journals.

He has participated in many international conferences and workshops.

He is also an external examiner for many universities in Ghana and abroad as well as supervises PhD and Masters degrees students in and outside his university.

The Researcher has over hundred and seventy (170) publications in referenced journals and five book chapters to his credit.

He was adjudged best scientist in his University (AAMUSTED) and 50th in Ghana as well as
120978th in the world in the AD Scientific index 2021.

In the 2022 AD Scientific Index ranking, he was the first in his university and 47th position in Ghana.

Prof. Bonyah can boast of 2823 google citations and 30 h-index over the past five years.

His research interests are Mathematical Modelling in educational issues, Error analysis in
Mathematics Concepts, learning theories and modern strategies in teaching mathematics and Ethno- mathematics.

Others are Mathematical Biology and Optimal Control Theory.

The Associate Professor’s latest educational research article, titled “High School Teachers’ Perceptions and Practices of Mathematics Curriculum in Ghana” was published in Hindawi, One of the world’s largest fully open access journal on January 13th, 2023.

Pro. Ebenezer Bonyah is a native of Adansi Kusa near Fomena in the Adansi North District in the Ashanti region.

In his late forty’s, Prof. is married, and they are blessed with four children.
