The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) has announced achievements of its WASH sector activities to members, stakeholders, donors and sector partners at the Mole XXXIII Conference.

According to leadership of the Coalition, CONIWAS has been recognised as the Most Impactful Non-Governmental Organisation in the promotion of Ghana’s Water and Sanitation sector for the year 2021.

In recognition of the feat, CONIWAS was presented with a plague at the recently held 2022 Ghana Environmental Sanitation Awards (GESA).

Chairman of CONIWAS, Yaw Attah Arhin announced the achievement in his welcome speech at the 33rd edition of the annual Mole WASH Conference held in the Central Region last week.

Mr. Attah Arhin was elated that prominent institutions and organisations have recognised the impacts of CONIWAS in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene service delivery in the country.

He dedicated the award to members of the coalition for their commitments to government and state agencies’ efforts towards achieving universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene (SDG six) by 2030.

“Nana Chairman, participants of Mole XXXIII Conference, I am happy to announce that in recognition of our good efforts, CONIWAS was presented with a plague for being the MOST IMPACTFUL NON-GOVERNMENTAL NGO IN ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION PROMOTION at the recently held Ghana Environmental Sanitation (GESA) Awards.

I wish to dedicate this award to all our members for keeping faith in us and supporting our various initiatives,” Mr. Yaw Attah Arhin announced.

He also congratulated Angel TV and GBC News for also picking up awards for their innovative WASH
centred programs, SESA WO SUBAN (Change your attitude) and WASH HOUR programs respectively.

He reminded participants that the Mole XXXIII WASH Conference was not a platform for lamentations and fault finding but rather time for WASH focused solutions.

The CONIWAS Chairman expressed optimism that Mole XXXIII Conference will help deepen the ongoing national WASH discourse and set a stage for key decisions on way forward to consolidate the gains.

“May I remind participants that Mole XXXIII WASH Conference is not the time for LAMENTATIONS.
It is rather the time for SOLUTIONS’’.

Yaw Attah Arhin urged all participants to resolve as stakeholders to act on critical issues confronting Ghana’s water and sanitation sector, such as the wanton pollution of the country’s water bodies through illegal mining (Galamsey), Sand-winning and other nefarious activities.

He expressed profound gratitude to CONIWAS funding partners whose financial support made the Mole XXXIII WASH Conference possible.

These include UNICEF and GAMA headline sponsors; SWP, Global Communities and Ghana Water Company Limited Platinum Sponsors and World Vision Ghana, WaterAid Ghana and Zoomlion Ghana Limited our Gold Sponsors.

Other are Catholic Relief Services, IRC, Plan International Ghana, SNV, ESPA and CWSA our Silver Sponsors.

The Mole WASH Conference is one of Africa’s longest running CSO-led, multi-stakeholder gathering on water and sanitation organized annually by CONIWAS and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
