About 12 personnel from the Ghana Police Service sustained injuries during crashes with protesters in the Ghanaian capital Accra yesterday.
The protest turned violent when the police fired tear gas into the crowed in attempt to disperse them.

The angry demonstrator charged on the police pelting them with stones and other objects.
Hundreds of Ghanaians took to the streets of Accra yesterday to partake in the “Arise Ghana” demonstration.
The protest was organized by a Ghanaian anti- government pressure group ” Arise Ghana” movement.
The pressure group called on citizens to join in the protest against the Nana Akufo-Addo led government over the high costs of living in the country.
Many of the protesters carried placards communicating their motives for joining the demonstration.
Some of the cards spotted by Africa Express Online reporters read ” Mr. President, Ghana is not for you and your family”.
” Akufo-Addo fix the country”.
“Ghanaians are suffering under Nana Addo and his NPP cronies” among many other headlines.
Our reporters gathered that a few of the demonstrators in the middle of the protest attempted drifting away from the official route for the demonstration.
They then came into contact with a heavily armed police blockade.
Efforts by the police to prevent them from deviating from the approved route resulted in violence.
The armed police fired tear gas into the crowed to disperse them resulting in injuries among the police and protesters.
29 of the alleged deviant violent protesters were in the process arrested by the police.
The Ghana Police Service disclosed that organizers of the demonstration will also be arrested and arraign before court for leading a violent protest.
Many Ghanaians have been complaining against acute increase in prices of food stuff and fuel.
The citizens over the past years have accused President Nana Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party government of mismanaging the Ghanaian economy.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government, on the other hand have attributed the country’s economic misfortunes to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
