Earth Mother Network, a local non-governmental organization into climate change and environmental conservation, advocacy and education has launched a project known as Climate in The Classroom Initiative.
Leadership of the NGO explained that the initiative is an environmental and climate change awareness and education campaign that targets children in basic schools.
The first and second editions of the innovative environmental and climate change awareness project was held at Tetrefu and Prabon D/A Basic Schools, both in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti region.
During media engagement at the Prabon event, Mary Adu-Sarpong- Founder and Lead Strategist of the Earth Mother Network pointed out that the initiative is focused on creating awareness in children the impact of climate change and measures to mitigate them.
She indicates that the initiative is to engage young minds on the need to protect and conserve the natural environment for future generations in the face of adverse impact of climate change.

The forester and environmental activist emphasized that creating environmental stewardship awareness in the classroom will empower young minds to develop a deep sense of responsibility toward their natural environment.
Mary Adu Sarpong disclosed that the project will equip young minds with the practical knowledge to make sustainable daily choices and develop empathy for tbe ecosystems.
She further noted that early childhood awareness on environmental and climate change related discussions will instill in the children the knowledge and confidence to influence peers, families, and communities on climate change related issues.
Mary Adu-Sarpong said the Tetrefu and Prabon events underscore Earth Mother Network’s commitment to proactive environmental education in the region in particular and the country in general.
She explained that the organization translates complex climate change concepts into simple, age-appropriate lessons.
These she said included using hands-on activities, climate centered conversations, and practical and observable climate change phenomenon from the children’s immediate environment.
Augustine Osei-Wusu, programs coordinator argued that values, habits, and attitudes formed at an early age strongly influence adult behavior.
He stressed on the need to engage young children especially in basic schools on important natural phenomenon such as climate change and environmental conservation since children represent the foundation of long-term environmental sustainability.
“Our core mission is to raise a generation that understands environmental challenges, adopts sustainable lifestyles, and actively participates in protecting natural ecosystems for present and future generations”, the programs coordinator pointed out.
Dr. Gloria Adeyiga-Programs Manager of the network reiterated the need for early environmental education to ensure that climate action is not reactive but preventive and rooted in well informed, conscious decision-making from childhood.

Dr. Adeyiga noted that promoting behavior change through practical, relatable actions such as empowering children as environmental ambassadors within their homes and communities
is the best way of strengthening long-term climate resilience through education rather than remediation.
She on this note called for support and partnership to enable the initiative reach more classrooms across the region and the country.
“Earth Mother Network invites corporate bodies, development partners, donors, and philanthropies and climate conscious individuals and organizations to support the expansion of Climate Change in the Classroom and related child-centered environmental education initiatives.
By investing in environmental education today, partners contribute directly to building a generation capable of safeguarding natural resources, mitigating climate risks, and leading sustainable development efforts tomorrow”, Dr. Gloria Adeyiga stressed.
Earth Mother Network is a grassroots environmental education and conservation organization committed to strengthening the human–nature connection through awareness, practical learning, and community engagement. The Network works to nurture environmentally responsible attitudes and behaviors, particularly among young people, by embedding sustainability into everyday life, culture, and education.
