Akufo Addo-Ghana committed to increase its renewable energy prospect

President Akufo- Addo and other world leaders at COP27 in Egypt

Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured leaders of the global community of his government’s commitment to increasing the renewable energy potentials of the country’s energy generation.

President Akufo-Addo made the commitment when speaking at ongoing COP27 side event- Sustainable Energy for All, organised by Bloomberg Philanthropies in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

He said Ghana develop explore available clean energy alternatives in the country energy sector.

“We will continue to increase our share of renewable energy in our electricity generation mix. We will also explore the options of hydrogen gas and other forms of clean energy sources to meet our country’s energy needs” President Akufo-Addo stated.

President Akufo-Addo noted that energy transition has become a global responsibility for all considering the impact of climate change and recent global energy crisis.

He said Ghana being signatory to the Paris Agreement and other international conventions will develop plans and strategies that will help the country to reduce its carbon dioxide emission levels towards a net-zero energy sector, whilst pursuing the nation’s economic development.

“Our updated Nationally Determined Contributions(NDCs), under the Paris Agreement, affirm the country’s resolve to address the impacts of climate change and build a resilient economy for our people”, Akufo Addo emphasized.
