Former first couple gifts community a health facility on 30th marriage anniversary

The former first couple of the republic of Ghana have handed over a newly constructed maternity and Children’s ward to management of Bole District Health Directorate.

The project is a philanthropic gift of the former First Lady to the people of the former president’s native town.

Former President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and his wife Lordina Mahama commissioned the facility at the climax of their 30 years marriage anniversary celebration.

John and Lordina Mahama inaugurated the new Maternity and Children’s Ward for Bole community as part of their marriage anniversary.

The 45- bed capacity twin wards for the Bole District Hospital in the newly created Savana region is expected to improve health care delivery in the Bole district.

The mother and child health care facility is an initiative of the former First Lady’s charity organization- The Lordina Foundation.

The facility was inaugurated and handed over to the people of Bole and it’s surrounding communities yesterday.

At a colourful inaugural ceremony, the former first gentleman said he was proud of the gusture for the occasion.

The ceremony was well patronized by people of Bole and its surrounding communities despite earlier downpour.

Present at the inaugural ceremony included the Paramount Chief of the Bole Traditional Council- Bole Wura Sarfo Kutuge Feso I, chiefs and elders of the Bole Traditional Area and the Bole District Chief Executive of the ruling party.

Others are the Savana Regional Director and his Bole District Director of Health, staff and management of the Bole District Hospital and the Bole Midwifery Training School.

“I am a very proud man and husband this afternoon. And I want to thank my wife, Lordina, her organization- the Lordina Foundation, partners and friends who ensured that this Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward was ready on time for today’s handing over to the Bole Community and the district hospital”, Mr. Mahama said.

The former president told the gathering that it is most appropriate that on their Pearl Jubilee marriage anniversary, they returned home, and gave something back to the town that nurtured him in his childhood years.

The former First Lady and President of the Lordina Foundation in her inaugural speech described the occasion as “one of the best moments in her life”

“Today, we celebrate life, we celebrate health and wellness. We celebrate our people and aspirations and above all we celebrate the product of this beautiful vision”.

“This is our heartfelt contribution to the lovely people of this community, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama announced.

Her Excellency Lordina Mahama commended her husband for being a great and responsible partner throughout their marriage years.

She also thanked Mr. Mahama for his immense support during the construction of the project.

The 865 square metre Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward has a total of 45 beds, 10 baby cots and 5 weighing scales with height measurements.

It has a Kangaroo Mother and Child Care Centre, a Delivery Room with two delivery beds, and a Recovery Ward.

Former President Mahama further disclosed that the newly inaugurated wards also include “a Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 3 incubators, 5 phototherapy units and a baby weighing scale.

The facility also has a theatre space with 2 theatre beds, theatre light and stool: rooms for sterilization, examinations, doctors consulting room, nurses’ workstations and a Linen Room.
