Guinea interim government has finally released the country’s ousted president, Alpha Conde from house arrest, Reuters has reported.
Ex President Conde 84, was put under house arrest following his overthrow in a coup by the Guinea military junta last year.
The junta led government announced the former leader’s release on a state television broadcast in Conakry on Friday April 20, 2022.
The former President was ousted in September last year on allegations of corruption and has been under house arrest until his release on Friday.
His captives earlier this month permitted the aged man to seek medical care in the United Arab Emirates.
He was also allowed visits by friends and relatives prior to his release.
The interim government in a statement disclosed the the former President will cohabitate with his wife’s relatives in the mean time.

He will move into his Conakry residence after renovation works on the structure are completed, the statement added.
The Guinea military topple received criticism and condemnation from Conde’s regional and continental allies and sympathizers.
The 15 member sub-regional block, ECOWAS placed a traveling ban on those responsible for the coup.
Africa Union (AU) and Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) have since suspended Guinea from both unions’ activities.
