Nigeria launches Digital currency tomorrow -Central bank of Nigeria.

 The economic giant of West Africa, Nigeria  is launching its digital currency , the eNaira tomorrow Monday 25th, the central bank of Nigeria has revealed.

Nigeria becomes first African country in West Africa to launch such digital currency.

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele said the launch of the electronic currency follows several years of research by the Central Bank to make financial transactions easier and accessible.

 The governor indicated that the Central bank engaged relevant stakeholders in the designing process of the digital currency. Some of the stakeholders consulted include the banking community, fintech operators, merchants and a cross section of Nigerian citizens.

‘’The introduction of th eNaira, according to the governor is a major step in the electronic revolution of banking and finance industry.

Godwin Emefiele said the CBN is committed to ensuring that the eNaira, is accessible by Nigerian like the physical Naira, like ’’, the Governor added.

The unveiling will mark the ‘’first step in the electronic journey, which will continue with a series of further modification platforms’’.  

He assured that, the CBN will continue to work with relevant partners to ensure a smooth process that will benefit every user, particularly those in rural areas and the banking population of Nigeria

‘’Since the eNaira is a new product, and amongst the first CBDCs in the world, we have instituted measures to promptly address any challenges during the pilot implementation period’’, the Governor stated.
